Karzan Hughes
Specialist Orthoptist and Orthoptics Lecturer

Karzan is a University Teacher in Orthoptics at the University of Sheffield.
He is a co-author on the Curriculum Framework for Pre-registration Orthoptic Education and Training. With over a decade of clinical experience, he has a specialist interest in stroke and neuro-rehabilitation. He has honorary clinical contracts at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield and Salford Royal Hospital, Greater Manchester. Karzan leads the Medicines Clinical Advisory Group for the British and Irish Orthoptic Society. He is actively involved in raising the standards of medicinal practice within the profession and leads the campaign for orthoptists to expand into independent prescribing.

Dr Michael Moore is a lecturer, researcher and clinical supervisor with the School of Physics and Clinical and Optometric Sciences at Technological University Dublin (TU Dublin), Ireland.
He conducts his research within the Centre for Eye Research Ireland (CERI), with a primary focus on myopia, epidemiology and big data. In addition to his research work, Dr Moore supervises clinics at the National Optometry Centre, where he mainly specialises in complex contact lens fitting.

Over the last 10 years, Richard has used his skills to develop the patient journey, dispensing services and the transition to private practice. Richard was presented the optician award for “Dispensing Optician of the Year (2022)” for his work developing a dispensing clinic for adults and children with Down syndrome. The clinic has proved to be hugely successful and continues to grow. Richard is currently studying the MOptom course at the University of Central Lancashire, with the aim of further developing the clinical services in practice.

Dr Síofra Harrington is a lecturer, researcher and clinical supervisor with the School of Physics and Clinical and Optometric Sciences at Technological University Dublin, Ireland.
She is a Fellow of the Association of Optometrists Ireland (AOI) and serves as the principal investigator for the Ireland Eye Study, which reported the prevalence of ametropia, amblyopia and vision impairment in Irish schoolchildren. Dr Harrington is the first author of six peer-reviewed academic publications and numerous academic poster presentations based on the Ireland Eye Study findings.

Wes is a professional consultant for Johnson & Johnson and has lectured on contact lenses, dry eye, pharmaceuticals and medical equipment for organisations including J&J, B&L, Labtician and ZEISS.
